How do you see yourself 5 or 10 years from now? We often hear this question and from a personal perspective, somehow, we always knew the answer.
But what if we ask you, how do you envision your MSP in the future? If you’re the owner, then it would probably be easy for you to tell. But try asking your staff one day. Do they have any idea of the path your MSP is going to take? Do they reflect on the roles that they’re going to play moving forward? If most of them took an extreme pause before answering, or worse never gave you one, maybe we need to talk about your vision statement.
A usual part of the onboarding process whenever a new employee comes along is making them familiar with your mission, vision and core values. Typically, as time goes by, employees are gradually becoming so occupied with the everyday hustle and bustle of work that they tend to forget the company’s holistic goal.
I think we can all agree that it’s much better to go to work every day if you share a common and defined direction that your team wants to take as your MSP progresses.
If you feel like your MSP is up to speed in your vision, then kudos to your team! But for some that’s struggling in keeping on track, here’s a few things you can do in making sure that your vision still works for your MSP:
1. Revisit your vision statement
Your goals from the time you got started might be different from what you want to achieve today. So read your vision statement again and ask yourself the following questions:
- Does it still match the path that your MSP is taking?
- Is it still achievable?
- Does it translate your MSP’s long-term goals?
Well, if you got 3 nos there then you definitely need to sit down with your team and rewrite it. Changing your direction is not a bad thing especially when your existing vision no longer serves you right.
2. Rewrite your vision collaboratively
As your employees are the key element in driving your MSP into achieving your vision, they deserve to be a part of creating it. Ask them for ideas and suggestions on how you can build an achievable and more defined vision statement. Knowing their vital roles in achieving your MSPs vision is something that can inspire them into being better employees.
3. Live your vision
Everyone’s role doesn’t stop after setting your new vision statement. In fact, it’s a new beginning for your MSP. Do a vision check-in from time to time and make sure everyone knows it by heart. Make sure that all the things you do on a daily basis leads toward achieving your overall goals.
Conclusion
It always boils down to the whys. Everything you do in your MSP should evolve on your purpose and your vision. When everything seems to be on fire, it will help you focus on your priorities.
So whenever you try to visualise your MSP’s future and it becomes too blurry for you to decipher, don’t be afraid to make a move and change it. After all, it’s way better to plan for the future with a clear direction in mind for you and your team.
So to end this piece we would like to leave a question for your MSP to ponder: Do you want to make things happen or are you just passing through?
“If you are working on something exciting that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.”
